Janet has been an executive at the Smithsonian Institution, the world’s largest museum, education, and research complex, since 2010.  She is currently Director of Strategic Initiatives in the central technology group, managing programs to share the Smithsonian’s vast digital resources with the public.

Prior to coming to the Smithsonian, Janet held senior positions in a range of public and private sector organizations including the White House, Stanford University, US Senate, State of Georgia, Corporate Executive Board, Emory University, and McKinsey and Company.

A native of Atlanta, GA, Janet attended Harvard College, earning her BA in History, summa cum laude and serving as First Marshal of Phi Beta Kappa.  She went on to earn an MBA from Stanford University with a Certificate in Public Management Studies.

In 1993, Janet applied for the White House Fellowship and was selected for the Class of 1994-95.  As a Fellow, she worked for both the White House Office of Communications and Domestic Policy Council.  She stayed on after the Fellowship year to manage both the President’s Task Force on the Olympic and Paralympic Games and the President’s Council on Year 2000 Conversion.

Janet has chaired the White House Fellows Foundation and Association and currently serves on the Board of the Jewish Community Center of Washington, DC, and Women’s Advisory Board of the Girl Scouts of the National Capital Area.
