Introduction to Khan Academy Vietnam
Khan Academy Vietnam (KAV) is a nonprofit educational program resulting from the strategic collaboration between The Vietnam Foundation (VNF) and Khan Academy.
From the US, Khan Academy is the leading free online learning platform, chosen by 165 million users across 190 countries and available in 53 languages. It is supported by major charitable foundations such as the Gates Foundation. Khan Academy platform offers a vast library of over 10,000 lessons, covering a wide range of subjects including Math, Computing, Sciences, Life Skills, Test prep, AP courses, and more. It caters to the learning needs from Kindergarten to Pre-College across various fields and cognitive levels.
Through the KAV Open School and KAV Open Class model on the Khan Academy platform, the KAV program aims to support schools in successfully achieving digital transformation in teaching as outlined in Decision No. 131/QĐ-TTg; effectively implementing the 2018 National General Education Program; promoting teaching and learning English, as well as other subjects in English according to Decision No. 2080/QĐ-TTg; and building a learning society as Decision No. 1373/QĐ-TTg.
By the end of 2023, along with the establishment of 1,242 KAV Open Schools across the country, nearly 50 local education divisions have received training, and over 10,000 teachers have utilized Khan Academy for effective teaching and class management. More than 40 KAV Open Classes have been established, and there are 1 million registered learning accounts. With these impressive figures, Vietnam is the third largest country outside the US using Khan Academy in teaching and learning.
In the first quarter of 2024, The Vietnam Foundation (VNF) collaborated with the Vietnam Institute for Advanced Study in Mathematics (VIASM), Khan Academy, and the Vietnam Association of Mathematics Education (AME) to organize the international conference “Artificial Intelligence and the Future of Education.” The conference introduced new ideas for effectively integrating information technology into teaching and learning, contributing to the advancement of digital transformation in education. Nearly 300 delegates from Vietnam and 17 other countries, with representatives from 34 education departments nationwide and more than 20 news agencies attended.
All support from VNF and Khan Academy is always free. With the commitment and extensive implementation of the KAV, VNF hopes to have the valuable support of individuals and organizations who share the same educational vision, contributing sustainable value to the lives of the Vietnamese people.
