VNF invited a delegation from the University of California, Irvine (UCI) to Vietnam from March 1 to 6, 2009 to examine how English is taught and learned in Vietnam in order to meet the high demand for English education in the American universities by Vietnamese students.

The group visited and worked with well-known schools and institutions in Vietnam that teach English classes, including Vietnam National University at Hanoi, Vietnam National University at Ho Chi Minh City, Equest, Seameo, Vietnam USA Society-English Training Service Center (VUS). As a result of the visit, UCI and Seameo will begin cooperating on the English teaching program. The VNF also succeeded in introducing the first group of Vietnamese students to study in an ESL program at UCI.
