To enhance the successful transition from Vietnam to the United States and to bolster the success of new Fellows, VNF provides a Pre-Departure Orientation (PDO) program, from May 29 – June 2, 2018 for all new VEF 2.0 Program Fellows prior to their departure from Vietnam, which includes:
- A outdoor experiential learning program that focuses on new and challenging activities that are unfamiliar and unique.
- Formal interactive presentations, focusing on a range of topics including cultural adjustment, U.S. academic culture, immigration regulations and responsibilities, etc.
The PDO experiential learning activities aim at strengthening the Fellows self-confidence; to approach things with an open mind; be daring; and think creatively and critically in situations that mirror what they might encounter in transitioning to a new culture and environment in the highly competitive American academic environment.
VNF also invited VEF Alumni to participate in the PDO and to share their cultural and academic adjustment experiences. In addition, Mr. Luke Tateoka, Consular Officer, U.S. Embassy in Hanoi attended and provided advice on visa and travel matters.
