Dr. Nguyen Van Hieu, Professor of Physics, former President of the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology.

Dr. Nguyen Van Hieu was a leading professor of Physics in Vietnam. He was a former director of the Institute of Physics of Vietnam, the Institute of Materials Science of Vietnam, as well as a former president of the Institute of Science and Technology of Vietnam. He was also a founding principal of the University of Technology, Hanoi National University (HNU).
In 1967, he completed his book that consisted of 20 research projects entitled “ Single symmetric theory of basic particles”. The Atomic Publisher printed the book in Moscow in 1967 that had an introduction of the famous scientist Bogolubov, a former director of the Dupna Institute. Hieu is the author of 130 scientific works with various research topics ranging from the weak interactions and symmetries of basic particles, the analytic theory of strong interactions and field theory, and the methods of quantum field theory in solid materials. His works have been published in many specialized and prestigious journals and magazines. Currently, he is one of the strongest and dedicated supporters of the open courseware movement in Vietnam.
He received his B.S in Physics with Excellence in 1956 from the University of Pedagogical Sciences and then taught Physics at the University of Hanoi, now known as the National University of Hanoi, right after his graduation, . He earned his PhD in Mathematics and Physics in Dubna, Russia in 1964.
